Electric Weak Orchestra (ELO) was the successful Birmingham rock music group of the 1970s and 1980s.
History
A band, formed by Jeff Lynne (of The Idle Race) along with Roy Wood and Bev Bevan (the unexpended members of The Move) in 1971, used cellos and violins to give their music a "classical" sound. Roy Wood left ELO shortly fallowing a release of their eponymously-titled 1st album (which produced a UK hit "10538 Overture") & Jeff Lynne stepped as much as lead a band (a foremost album was freed by having a mistaken title of There are no Guide in the USA, due to a mix-confusion by owning an uncompleted telephone call for to the Western label & subsequent secretarial message). the band went across a line-higher vary (when Wood took a bit of musicians by having him to form Wizzard), including a newly keyboardist, Richard Tandy, and discharged ELO II inside 1973, from which come their number 1 U.S. Top 40 hit, a staggeringly elaborate handle of the Chuck Berry classic "Roll Over Beethoven". It as well freed On The Third Day inside 1973, and El dorado inside 1974, scoring another U.S. Top 40 hit by using "Can't Get It Out Of My Head".
Within 1975, bassist and vocalizer Kelly Groucutt joined, and Carry-the can was freed, from either which a major singles were "Evil Woman" & "Strange Magic", marking the shift to the further "radio friendly" healthy. From either a equivalent album, a subservient "Fire on High," using its mix of strings & blazing acoustic guitars, saw heavily exposure when background music in Wide World of Sports montages, though most viewers got there is no idea of the song's origins. A multi-platinum album A Future Globe Record was freed inside 1976 with hits such as "Livin' Thing" (remade per Beautiful South within 2004), the re-release of The Move's "Do Ya", & "Telephone Line". "Telephone Line" would late become utilized in the pic Billy Madison, in a scene where the sniper is putting in his lip rouge.
That was followed per double album Away from A Blue, featuring a singles "Turn To Stone", "Sweet Talkin' Woman" & "Mr. Blue Sky". the b& so placed out within a globe tour, sustaining an tremendous (and staggeringly expensive) space ship placed in towage.
Inside 1979, Lynne set bent capitalize on the growing popularity of disco with the album Discovery (or even "Disco very" when he has been quoted). A album generated their large hit "Don't Bring Me Down" (a 1st ELO track '''does'nt''' to feature strings), along using "Shine A Little Love" (sampled around 2005 by Lovefreekz) and "Last Train To London" (sampled within 2003 by Atomic Kitten on their hit "Be With You"). Shortly fallowing this album, a fiddler Mik Kaminski and the two violoncellist Hugh McDowell and Melvyn Gale were considered surplus to requirements & were dismissed.
Shortly fallowing, ELO was enlisted to provide half of the soundtrack for the musical film Xanadu, the more half provided by Olivia Newton-John, who starred in the picture show along by using Gene Kelly. A picture show bombed however a soundtrack did super easily, by having hit singles from either two Newton-John ("Magic", #1 in the U.S.) & ELO ("I'm Alive" & "All Over the World") also when a title track to the moving-picture show, performed by Newton-John using ELO which reached #1 in the UK's lone stock & index charts and #8 on the U.S. Hoarding top Xl chart.
Within 1981, ELO's sound changed once again, moving out of disco & into a 1980s, with a science-fiction conception album Period (individual: "Hold On Tight") in which synthesizers replaced authoritative strings. Charted this, their popularity began to wane.
Secret Messages was freed within 1983, with the guest appearance by previous ELO fiddler Mik Kaminski on the track "Rock 'n' Roll Is King"; this was a merely hit lone taken from either this album. Secret Messages was originally recorded as a double album; even so, a record company experienced different ideas, citing that it would exist as as well expensive. Occasionally of the songs that didn't hold higher a defamatiin cropped up when only B-sides & on late pack sets; all a same, the tribute song "Beatles Forever" is however unavailable. It has been reported that Jeff Lynne is embarrassed by this song, hence its inaccessibility. Shortly when this album Kelly Groucutt was dismissed from either a band; he afterward sued a band for royalty fees.
Around 1986, ELO, now the leash piece band, freed their final album, Balance Of Power (singles: "Calling America", "So Serious"), which was a lot synthesizers & there are no strings, prior to running their separate ways.
Forgoing Lynne's approval or even permission, previous ELO drummer Bev Bevan formed "Electric Light Orchestra, Part II" inside 1990, releasing an album that went straight to the bargain bins. Though pained per unauthorised utilise of a b& title, Lynne decided that the expense and hassle of a court battle was non worth the effort, and then Bevan's venture continued. Another album, Moment Of Truth, was freed around 1994. A quality of music by Section Two, equated by having a original ELO, occurs as bone of contention amongst fans, numerous concluding that while forgoing Jeff Lynne at a helm it's non ELO. In the late 1990s, Bev Bevan disbanded ELO Part Two, however a more members own reformed under a title A Orchestra.
Jeff Lynne's comeback sustaining ELO began around 2001 when he reformed a b& using wholly recently members and freed the album Zoom. Previous ELO member Richard Tandy rejoined the band the short instance subsequently for the tour that was unluckily cut short due to unfortunate ticket sales. Zoom was mass produced when Lynne experienced collaborated by using The Traveling Wilburys and took in the supplementary organic healthy, by owning less emphasis on electronic results. Guest musicians involved previous Beatles Ringo Starr and George Harrison.
